Regions’ name at its founding was First Alabama Bancshares. Regions Bank was the first first bank holding company in Alabama to incorporate multiple banks. In the 1980s, Regions expanded from its Alabama home base and purchased banks in Texas, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
